City of Avalon Launches New All Electric MicroTransit Shuttle Service – COAST
Avalon, CA – On April 4, 2024 the City of Avalon launches its new on-demand, point-to-point public transportation service – COAST – City of Avalon Seaside Transit.
Thanks to a partnership with Circuit Transit, residents and visitors to Avalon can now enjoy rides to and from anywhere within Avalon's city limits with fares starting at $2 per rider.
The new, 100 percent electric, transit system is a total re-design from the previous fixed route Garibaldi bus and dial-a-ride system. COAST will improve reliability and function for resident and visitor transportation as well as continue to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“We are thrilled to introduce this significant upgrade to Avalon’s public transportation system. We hope that our launch of an all-electric fleet of vehicles will set a standard for reduction of emissions and noise in the community,” said City Manager, Dave Maistros.
The goal of the new program is to better align with the needs and expectations of the Island’s community of residents and visitors, improve wayfinding, alleviate congestion, and reduce demand for parking in the City’s “downtown” area, as well as increase the overall efficiency of transport in Avalon.
Operating public micro-transportation services in more than 40 markets across the U.S., Circuit is one of the largest operators of shared, on-demand, EV shuttle services in the country. Circuit currently operates similar transit programs in Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Oceanside, and San Diego.
"We applaud and thank the City of Avalon for its forward-thinking approach as we launch our new Circuit program, bringing innovative, eco-friendly transportation solutions to the community,” said Daniel Kramer, Circuit’s West Coast Director of Business Development. “This partnership with Avalon is a testament to our shared commitment to sustainable urban mobility, and we’re excited to contribute positively to the city and its residents.”
Users can ride the new transit system by downloading the Ride Circuit app in the Apple App or Google Play Store. Standard hours of operation for COAST are 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily.
The COAST program is funded through TDA Article 8, Los Angeles County Proposition A, Proposition C and Measure R Local Return funding, Proposition A Discretionary funding and passenger fare revenues.
